WELL - SHE is sitting in a wheelchair and has trained this horse to
do amazing things. By herself.
This page is designed by me, Katrin Feldmann, and although I try to
be as objective as I can be, this is nevertheless a subjective page of
a woman I very much admire. |

| I met her almost two years ago on a fair, the Equitana Germany. She
impressed me sooo much that I waited until she was through with her show
and went to talk to her. Imagine, talking with this wonderful woman for
almost an hour, in the middle of a busy fair, with people running and shoving
around, and there she was, totally quiet, like her horse on just a halter
and a looong rope
(Biko always brought me my bag which I had put aside - I learned later
that Silke had a bag just like that in which she stored carrots and he
brought this bag to me thinking there were carrots in it, too, and, not
like any other horse I know did he try to open the bag, no, he just brought
it to me and waited if I would get a carrot out of it).

Katrin a rencontré Silke il y a environ deux ans sur la foire
Equitana en Allemagne.
Elle l'a SI fort impressionné que Katrin a attendu la fin de
son show pour discuter pendant plus d'une heure avec une femme admirable
en plein milieu de la foule de la foire dans la cohue et le brouhaha alors
que Silke reste calme son cheval auprès d'elle simplement avec un
licol et une trèèèèèès loooongue
longe et qui ramenait près de lui constament le sac de Katrin
(plus tard elle apprit que Silke possede un sac similaire qui contient
normalement les carottes Sac que Biko a l'habitude d'aller chercher
quand il souhaite une carotte, il n'ouvre pas le sac il l'apporte...
et bien élevé Biko esperait que Katrin lui en offre des carottes...)

| I found out that she had an accident when she was a young girl, and
never had much to do with horses. But she did not want to give up her dreams,
although she sat in a wheelchair. |
Katrin apprit que Silke avait eu un accident alors qu'elle était
enfant et qu'elle n'avait jamais eu affaire avec des chevaux. Mais
alors qu'elle était en convalescence elle décida de réaliser
ce rêve. |
I do consider her the most amazing horse(wo)man I know, because she
does all that DESPITE her sitting in the wheelchair. And NO, she did not
choose a small pony, but a HUGE Frisian. Of course, the horse was
not wild when she got it, but it was pretty little trained. The ideas of
PNH helped her a lot, but I
consider her to have come far and farther on her own way. How can any
of us without her handicap even imagine how much ideas, innovation,
flexibility, thought, timing and courage is necessary to achieve what she
achieved. |
Katrin l'a considère comme une des figures marquantes qu'elle
ait rencontré en équitation indépendament de
sa voiturette... Et malgré celle-ci elle ne prit pas un petit
poney, non un énorme frison. Bien sûr des techniques
décrites comme le PNH ont aidé mais Silke a du défricher
des terres inconnues et est allée très loin dans cette
voie. Combien de cavalier valides ont assez d'imagination, d'innovation
de flexibilité, d'humilité, d'énergie et de courage
pour accomplir ce que Silke et Biko réalisent en partenaria? |
| IMHO, she is already now a brilliant horse trainer in her own rights.
She used her handicap - rather than taking it as an excuse - to surpass
the normal, the schemes, the fixed plans. Just think how good she would
be if she did not have the handicap - can she be better? She would have
a lot of things easier, but I am very sure she will achieve what she wants
to. |
Maintenant Silke est une cavalière reconnue et un entraineur
à part entière et appréciée. Elle utilise
son handicap pour dépasser ses limites pas comme excuse.
Il faiudrait faire un effort d'imagination pour estimer quel serait
son niveau d'excellence sans ce handicap, gageons qu'lle y serait arrivé
tant sa volonté est forte pour arriver à ses fins. |
What makes Silke and Biko especially precious to me is that they don´t
just function. They both have live and spirit, they both learn along the
way, get better constantly and don´t even pretend to be perfect,
all-knowing.
So many horse-gurus I observed, but hardly ever did I see a person
who left the horse with that much spirit and self-confidence. If you ever
have the chance to see both of them together, you will see a Partner-performance
rather than a dominance performance. Now and then Bico will run an extraircle,
I swear he is grinning and enjoying himself, before he returns to Silke
to follow whatever she wants of him. He KNOWS she has no way to catch
him if he chooses to be naughty, but he loves to work for and with her,
and that´s why I love them.
You won´t see a YESSIR - HOW - FAR - HOW - FAST, you will see
joy and spirit and life and love.

Ce qui rend Silke et Biko si particuliers et précieux au coeur
de Katrin est le fait que rien n'est automatique, chacun à un libre
arbitre et ils coopèrent, ils apprennent l'un de l'autre constament
et ne prétendant jamais être parfait et omniscients.
J'ai rencontré beaucoup (Trop?) de gouroux, de Maîtres
mais rarement il est donné de voir une telle conivence et confiance.
Si vous avez la chance de les voir ensemble vous verrez deux PARTENAIRES
en piste et non un couple cheval - dresseur. De temps en temps Biko
fera pour le plaisir un tour de plus, je jure qu'il en rit et qu'il y prend
goût avant de retourner auprès de Silke et de la suivre dans
tous ces mouvements. Il SAIT qu'elle ne sait en aucune façon
le rattraper s'il choisit d'être fugueur mais il aime son travail
et la présence de Silke et pour cela que Katrin les aime.
Vous ne verrez pas un "OUICHEF - PLUS - FORT - PLUS - LOIN", vous verrez
la joie de vivre et l'amour.

How can I say I-cannot-do-this - if she can? How can I give up if she
doesn´t? |
Silke maintenant enseigne à d'autre comment y arriver
Elle est une source d'inspiration.
Comment dire en effet quand on est valide "je n'y arriverai pas" alors
que Silke y parvient ?

| Last year I saw her on a clinic with Ray
Hunt in Germany, and even Ray was very much impressed. He even drew
his hat a couple of times in admiration, people who know him know he does
this extremely rarely. Well, Silke dream always was to ride Biko,
to mount by herself, and though she could get Biko to lie down, she
could not keep him reliably down on her own so that she crawl on his back.
My friend Gail Ivey,
hundreds of other spectators and me were witnesses when Ray helped her
and - there she was - with a huge grin on her face - riding around
in the arena, with a VERY proud horse. Believe it or not -there was hardly
a dry eye left. |
L'année passée Katrin l'a à nouvreau rencontrée
lors d'un stage avec Ray Hunt
qui
lui même en a été impressionné (Chapeau bas
et ceux qui connaissent Ray Hunt savent combien cette marque d'estime est
rare chez lui...) Silke avait toujours rêver de pouvoir monter
Biko mais sele il était impossible à Sike d'enseigner
à Biko de se maintenir couché le temps necessaire de
permettre de ramper à Silke sur son dos et ensuite se relever.
Aussi Katrin, son amie Gail Ivey,
et des centaines de spectacteurs en ont été témoins,
Ray a juste aidé un peu et alors... Silke avec un imense sourrire
s'est retrouvée chevauchant Biko qui en était tout aussi
fier... |

| I will support her every step of the way and hope she will get a world-wide
carreer - there is sooo much she can teach us, we, that we move around
to much and still not get the results she gets - ON HER OWN - there is
nobody helping her when she trains Biko. |
Silke mérite véritablement d'être secondée
dans une carrière mondiale, elle a énormément à
communiquer aux cavaliers "valides" qui n'arrivent pas à obtenir
malgré tous leurs efforts les résultats qu'elle obtient et
ELLE ENTRAINE SON CHEVAL SANS AIDE... |
